NeighbourLink Report – February 2021

Parishioner Debbie Courtis is our church’s liaison to NeighbourLink, a local organization that St. Augustine’s has contributed to both through human-power and financially for a few decades. They recently had their AGM and she’s provided this synopsis to us:

The board, local ministers and church liaisons met Feb. 10, 2021 for the NeighbourLink Zoom Annual General Meeting.

In 2020, the support provided by NeighbourLink Parkland has not lessened in any way. In fact, with the pandemic all around us many other agencies were on a reduced ability to serve. NeighbourLink stepped up to the plate.

  • Financial assistance increased 34%.
  • Calls were up about 20% at 300 calls a month.
  • Furniture needs were up 39%. We have some furniture in storage.
  • Help Closet (everyday necessity items) usage up 61%. We currently need toilet paper, Kleenex, women’s socks, toe/hand warmers and portable snacks to go.

The pandemic has hit our community hard and the needs are great. We value the partnerships we have with other community agencies and our member churches. NeighbourLink provides immediate and positive care to individuals and families in need.

Sharlene Page has finished her term as chairperson. The new board chair is Alex Clowes from the Spruce Grove Alliance Church. Sharlene will now serve as past chair.

Of note, we said a fond farewell to Dr. Nat Rutter for over 20 years with NeighbourLink. He was made an honorary member of the Board, in recognition of his years of service and remains available for consultation on matters of governance.

The everyday ride program has been suspended until further notice due to COVID-19.
