A Christmas Carol with CBC Radio

This December 19 evening event was a smashing success! By our quick estimation, over 175 souls found their way into our church, led by star-ice-candles (thanks Treena Murray!) bordering the stoop of our church’s front entrance.

All patrons were treated to five staves (chapters) of Dickens’ classic tale, A Christmas Carol, read and performed by five CBC Edmonton radio personalities (Adrienne Pan, Rod Kurtz, Mark Connolly, Janice Johnston, and Lydia Neufeld). Kim Trynacity, also of CBC, provided MC’ing duties. Between the staves, various members of St. Augustine’s (in different groups) took to the stage, along with Tim Chesterton, Meridian Line, Tag Along, and Lorne Manweiler, all of whom showed us their musical talents.

Many parishioners took part in organizing and executing this large-scale (for our church, anyway!) event, looking after everything from preparing and serving mincemeat pies and mulled wine to handling the rental of top hats, bonnets, and capes, so that many participants could look “Dickensian.”

Proceeds from the event will be shared with our friends at the Kinsmen Club of Stony Plain and Kinettes of Spruce Grove in aid of their annual Christmas hamper drive. Their budget this year is about $450,000 and we’ll have helped somewhat.

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped to sell tickets.
