On March 1, 2014, Joanne Webster became the fifth rector of St. Augustine's - Parkland Anglican Church, since it no longer existed as a "mission church" in the Tri-Municipal area. She previously served as Deacon, then Rector, of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Leduc.
Joanne grew up in Nottingham, England - where the nefarious "Sheriff of Nottingham" presided in the days of Robin Hood. After finishing high school, she studied music for one year at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and then emigrated to Canada with her family at the age of 19. Landing in Ontario, she continued studying music and graduated from the University of Toronto with a BMus in 1987. Joanne insists that this doesn't mean she can sing - her major was oboe! At the U of T, she met her husband, Jeremy, and they were married in 1987.
Soon after the nuptials, Joanne and Jeremy were blessed with two daughters. Wanting to be closer to family (and free babysitting, presumably) and the Rockies, they moved to Edmonton in 1991.
During the girls' growing-up years, Joanne opted to stay at home with them and to give the extra support needed for the youngest, who is 'special needs.' During this time, Joanne dedicated an increasing amount of time serving in many ways in her inner-city Edmonton parish of St. Faith's. It was then, well into her middle life, that she felt God's call to an ordained ministry.
Answering this call, Joanne then enrolled at Newman Theological College and graduated with a Masters of Theological Studies in 2009. She then went on to her stint in Leduc and was appointed to her new position with us in late 2013.
Joanne is extremely excited about the work and plans God has for her and the parish of St. Augustine's - Parkland. Likewise, we're equally excited about "catching" her and getting her swept up into the vortex of our very busy and vibrant church family!
